“The Red Gum Ramblers” has been a long standing fixture in Albert Park and Port Melbourne.  Founder Ken Brandt, AJM member, chose to move on from the band in 2022.  The group reorganised as “The Ramblers”, and as always in such cases, some old hands left and some new faces joined the group. The focus of the band, however, remained playing trad jazz charts well, sounding terrific, and adding interesting improvisations.  The Ramblers, having almost two of every instrument and therefore musicians, have developed a unique high energy form of Trad and Swing Jazz. We like to do things a little differently. After all we have a flute!

From the restart two years ago, the band has performed at Lions club activities, fundraising events, public markets, swing dances and retirement village luncheons.  Ramblers also enjoy a very successful residency at the Bonehead Brewery in Flemington. A highlight of this gig is our middle set where we invite members of the public to ‘Sing with the Swing’. This has given a large number of singers the opportunity to sing live with the band and perform the great jazz standards.  Please join us on the 3rd Sunday of each month.

As a first time Port Fairy ensemble, The Ramblers is aware of the high standards and quality of the Port Fairy Jazz Festival.  That said, The Ramblers members have earned some stripes playing in other groups around Australia and even overseas and hope you enjoy the way we play jazz.
